چکیده

The aim of the present study was to promote plant growth characteristics including mineral uptake and various phytohormone production by indigenously isolated Bacillus spp. strains. Plants subjected normal water stress conditions were collected after 21 days measure physiological parameters, photosynthetic pigment estimation, biochemical attributes, lipid peroxidation antioxidant enzyme response modulation. Our results correlated with drought amelioration inoculation strains BEB1, BEB2, BEB3 BEB4 under sterile soil condition. Inoculated plants both maize cultivars showed increases in fresh (56.12%) dry (103.5%) biomass, length (42.48%), pigments (32.76%), attributes enhanced nutrient uptake. overall bacterial lowered malonaldehyde level (59.14%), generation hydrogen peroxide (45.75%) accumulation flavonoid contents control Activity enzymes, catalase (62.96%), peroxidase (23.46%), ascorbate (24.44%), superoxide dismutase (55.69%) also decreased application treatment. Stress is dependent on a specific plant–strain interaction evident differences evaluated responses. Such bacteria could be used for enhancing crop productivity protection biotic abiotic stresses sustainable agriculture.

ROLE OF POTASSIUM IN PHYSIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS OF SPRING MAIZE (Zea mays L.) GROWN UNDER DROUGHT STRESS

Drought stress leaves deleterious effects on growth of maize plant while potassium plays an important role in reducing such deleterious effects. To study the role of potassium on maize plant grown under drought stress an experiment was conducted at Postgraduate Agricultural Research Station, Faisalabad, Pakistan. Maize hybrids 32-F-10 (drought tolerant) and YH-1898 (drought sensitive) were grow...

Genomic Regions Associated with Root Traits under Drought Stress in Tropical Maize (Zea mays L.)

An association mapping panel, named as CIMMYT Asia association mapping (CAAM) panel, involving 396 diverse tropical maize lines were phenotyped for various structural and functional traits of roots under drought and well-watered conditions. The experiment was conducted during Kharif (summer-rainy) season of 2012 and 2013 in root phenotyping facility at CIMMYT-Hyderabad, India. The CAAM panel wa...

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Maize (Zea mays L.) Response to Nitrogen Fertilizer under Drought Stress at Vegetative and Reproductive Stages

In the sub-tropics, water and nitrogen are the most important factors limiting the grain yield of maize. The effect of nitrogen (N) rates and drought stress at different growth stages of maize were investigated. Nitrogen treatments consisted of 100, 150, and 200  kgN.ha-1 from the urea source while water stress treatments were composed of irrigation-off since the early 10-leaf stage to emergenc...

Evaluation of oxidative stress tolerance in maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings in response to drought.

Seedlings of selected six genotypes of maize (Zea mays L.) differing in their drought sensitivity (LM5 and Parkash drought-tolerant and PMH2, JH3459, Paras and LM14 as drought-sensitive) were exposed to 72 h drought stress at two leaf stage. Alterations in their antioxidant pools combined with activities of enzymes involved in defense against oxidative stress were investigated in leaves. Activi...
